One value shown is bravery. "When it comes to fighting, I count myself as dangerous any day as Grendel"(Heaney 677-678). Beowulf has no fear of Grendel so he has enough confidence to say that he is as strong as Grendel. He seems to be bragging too. Another value shown is courage. "One man, however, was in fighting mood, awake and on edge, spoiling for action"(Heaney lines 708- 709). Beowulf had enough courage to stand up to Grendel that he stayed awake to fight Grendel. This ties in with bravery too.
An alliteration is "Greedy and grim"(lines 122). This quote talks about Grendel's characteristics like greedy. "Head of the high kings"(lines 183). This is also alliteration. The h is repeated in the sentence twice. This explains about someone being the greatest of all.
A kenning is "the walker of darkness"(Breeden paragraph 2). This is used to explain Grendel as he came to feast upon the people. The quote explains that he is someone of evilness with the word darkness from the quote.
