Randam thoughts

This is just some random open thoughts for class. Many things go wrong in school and sometimes there are things that go really great. But I don't know what to type...This is kin of hard to think of something to type of because I don't have much to say. Well this class is really fun a lot of the times. A few times it is boring but just as long as we learn something like new stories and etc. A lot of people help me on classwork so I want to be smarter so that I can get the meaning of things that I don't.

Oh yeah I DO have six toes on my right foot but I wonder what it really stands for. I wonder who else has six toes in the school. It's just a thought but I'm typing it so I don't care about it much. None of my other family members have six toes so I feel left out at times but also I feel like I'm unique in a way too. I use to have been able to move my sixth toe but now I can't because I never practice moving it around anymore.

Inferno Commentary

"One of the damned came racing round a boulder, and as he passed us, a great snake shot up and bit him where the neck joins with the shoulder. No mortal pen-however fast it flash over the page-could write down o or i as quickly as he flamed and fell in ash; and when he was dissolved into a heap on the ground, the dust itself rose of itself and immediately resumed its former shape. Precisely so, philosophers declare, the phoenix dies and then is born again when it approaches its five hundredth year. It lives on tears of balsam and incense; in all its life it eats no herb or grain, and nard and precious myrrh sweeten its cerement"(Ciardi lines 97-111).

This passage is significant because it uses imagery, exposition, and metaphor. It has a special emotion which is the phoenix being used in comparison. The phoenix coming to life like the person being brought back is interesting since it causes the reader to wander about the person feeling pain for his sins.

Metaphor is used to describe the person to the phoenix. The person is bitten and dissolves but the person comes back to life and it is compared to the phoenix. "When he was dissolved into a heap on the ground, the dust itself rose of itself and immediately resumed its former shape"(Ciardi). Precisely so, philosophers declare, the phoenix dies and then it is born again"(Ciardi). The person dies but is reborn in a way like how the phoenix is born again on its fifth hundredth year. The person is instead brought back to life to feel more pain for the person's sins.

Imagery is used to evoke a picture of when the person is flamed and dissolves into ash. "He flamed and fell in ash; and when he was dissolved into a heap on the ground, the dust itself rose of itself and immediately resumed its former shape"(Ciardi). The phoenix creates an image that tells of how the phoenix comes back to life.

Exposition is used to explain the phoenix's background. "It lives on tears of balsam and incense; in all its life it eats no herb or grain, and nard and precious myrrh sweeten its cerement." The phoenix's background helps the reader understand what the phoenix does to survive in life. It also tells when the phoenix comes back to life which is part of its background. "The phoenix dies and then is born again when it approaches its fifth hundredth year"(Ciardi).
This passage was chosen because it talks about the phoenix and the phoenix is a favorite medieval animal of many people. The way it is used in comparison with the dead person's soul is incredible. The phoenix is incredible itself since it can come back to life as many times as it wants. The human soul being bitten and being brought back to feel more pain is also incredible. The soul being able to feel pain even though its out of a body makes the reader want to read the book further.

One value shown is bravery. "When it comes to fighting, I count myself as dangerous any day as Grendel"(Heaney 677-678). Beowulf has no fear of Grendel so he has enough confidence to say that he is as strong as Grendel. He seems to be bragging too. Another value shown is courage. "One man, however, was in fighting mood, awake and on edge, spoiling for action"(Heaney lines 708- 709). Beowulf had enough courage to stand up to Grendel that he stayed awake to fight Grendel. This ties in with bravery too.
An alliteration is "Greedy and grim"(lines 122). This quote talks about Grendel's characteristics like greedy. "Head of the high kings"(lines 183). This is also alliteration. The h is repeated in the sentence twice. This explains about someone being the greatest of all.
A kenning is "the walker of darkness"(Breeden paragraph 2). This is used to explain Grendel as he came to feast upon the people. The quote explains that he is someone of evilness with the word darkness from the quote.

Guilty Creon

Judge, ladies and gentlemen, Creon is guilty of the death of his family members along with the death of Antigone. “I killed you, my son, without intending to, and you, as well, my wife" (Johnston, lines 1340-1341). This , here expains why Creon is guilty. He has mentioned that it was him who killed his family members. Creon was filled with too much pride that his family members died. His pride was one of his emotions that caused many others to suicide. With Antigone he has sentenced her to the death sentence.” Don’t speak of her being here. Her life is over” (line 649). This , here explains his choice to have Antigone die. He didn't care about Antigone anymore with his saying. He said this to Ismene and you can ask my witness Ismene about it if you want. She alone is the lone survivor who is a witness. Another proff is when the chorus asks "How do you plan to kill Antigone"(line 883). The Chorus is someone who has took part with the killing of Antigone. He may have not killed her but he too has been agreeing with the king on and on about things. Back to Creon, another proof is when Creon said "I won't encourage you or cheer you up, by saying the sentence won't be carried out" (line 1048-1049). Creon is making his self be known that he will carry out the death sentence that he has put on Antigone. So Creon is guilty of the death of his family member and Antigone. He has done a crime of the death of these people mentioned that he should be jugded upon by you, the judge so this ends my case of Creon being guilty.

Antigone LRJ #2

LRJ#2
There are many strong imagery in Antigone. A strong imagery is where Polyneices is being buried. It is repeated throughtout the play. "The dead man- Polyneices- out there- someone- New dust on the slimy flesh!"(Sophocles, lines 100-108). In this example Polyneices was talked about when he wasnn't supposed to have been buried. This quote reveals clearly that Polyneices was found buried by the messanger presenting this information to the king.
A fatal flaw is when Creon had too much pride so his family members died because of his pride. He took it to his brain too much by his pride that he doesn't consider other people'e opinion. "You forget yourself! You are speaking to your king"(line 63). He said this out of pride to Teiresias not caring about Teiresias's prophet.
"It is right that I should be. I alone am guilty. I know it, and I say it. Lead me in, Quickly friends. I have neither life nor substance. Lead me in"(lines 121- 124). This is anagnorisis. This, Creon admits that he alone is wrong and he will go and let Antigone out of the death sentence. When he gets there he finds Antigone dead and his son tried to attack him. Then Haimon, Creon's son, killed himself leaving the king miserable.
Peripeteia takes place when Haimon, Antigone, and the Queen dies. "They're dead- and those alive bear the responsibilty for those who've died"(Johnston, line 172) This is one place where Creon's life has been turned around. "Take this foolish man away from here"(Johnston, line 145). This is peripeteia because Creon's life has been turned upsidedown due to the death of his family mebers. He knew that he was the cause of the deaths that he called himself a foolish man.
Catharsis happens near the end. Pity is lost from the reader when Creon has no more family mebers left and he has given up on life. "Servants- hurry and lead me off, get away from here, for now what I am in life is nothing"(Johnston, lines 143- 149). Creon accepts his loss but he doesn't want to be part of life any longer.
In Antigone women are considered to be very brave and loyal to their family members. Antigone is considered strong when she stands up for herself when she knows she had done something against the law. "I admit I did it. I won't deny that"(Johnston, line 500). "But if I’d allowed my own mother’s dead son to just lie there, an unburied corpse, then I’d feel distress" (Johnston, line 157-159) This is when Antigone is considered loyal since she is burying her brother no matter what will stand in her way.

The Burial of Polyneices! Extra! Extra! Extra! Read all about it!

by: Anonymous
Polyneices, the brother of Antigone was killed today along with Eteocles. He and his brother killed each other trying to become the king. Creon took control and orders were given to not bury anyone who goes against Thebes. Anyone doing so will be killed. The orders were given only because Polyneices fought against Thebes. Eteocles was honored since he didn't go against Thebes but Polyneices isn't. Someone caught Antigone burying her brother Polyneices and took her to the king. Antigone along with her sister Ismene were sentenced to death. Later on Ismene was allowed to live but Antigone was locked away. The king's son found the king and had a quarrel with him. When the son left, the king got the news of his fate by the blind prophet. Upon learning his prophet the king went to release Antigone. Getting to where he had locked Antigone up he found Antigone dead. His son tried to kill him (the king) but dodging the son failed. The son mad killed himself. King Creon returning home also found his wife dead and so he wanted to kill himself. He had himself killed.......WE NEED A NEW KING SO WHO WILL BE THE NEXT KING! An event is going to be held for those who want to become the next king.
So please enter.....
